Polishing is an important job while repairing or servicing watches. In this process, polishing compounds and tools are used for getting high quality results. Tools used vary from different kind of mops to polishing wheels and grinding stones.
B quality calico mop has a diameter of 6” and comes as two sections. They are hard grade and loose mops that can be used as alternatives to white stitch mops. They are very good to work on precious metals like gold and silver. This mop when used with brown Tripoli grease bar is effective as first stage polishing agent on plastics. The finishing is later completed with G quality mop with some rouge polishing compound. The G quality cotton mop is the most popular mop type. It is 100% cotton discs that can be used effectively with blue polishing compound and ideal for stainless steel, brass, aluminium, copper as well as iron and steel surfaces.
The colour stitch mop is useful for general polishing. With a Tripmax Brown polishing compound, they provide first stage polishing for soft metals like brass and copper while with Abramax Grey polishing compound they act as second stage polishers on hard metal surfaces. These mops when coated with abrasive compounds can be used for ‘scurfing’ and abrasive finishing operations. The sisal polishing mop is very fast and hard cutting. They are good for heavy duty polishing operations on both ferrous and non-ferrous surfaces. They are ideal for removing grinding marks and have good effect when used with a coarse abrasive polishing compound.
For a satin finish, the Robur Bufflex wheel is the popular solution. They are good on all types of metals and is used by watchmakers the world over for working on watch bracelets and cases. This wheel is made in France; it has a leather centre piece and comprises three sections for effective polishing.
