Watches are mechanical appliances that do collapse after a certain amount of wear and tear. If you want your watches to last for a long time then make sure you have it checked over at least once in six months and given a proper cleaning.
Watches are mechanical appliances and after a certain amount of wear and tear, the do
collapse. They require fine tuning, replacement of parts and just the same amount of maintenance as you would require with any appliance. But very few people realize just how much wear and tear; our watches have to endure nearly every day.
You expose your expensive wrist watch to wear and tear, dirt, sweat, water leakage with your daily activities. The interior workings of every watch are also subject to problems
like old oil and grease gumming up the interior workings. All of these activities push dirt and even more grit into the interior of your watch’s workings. The best way to make sure that this crud does not permanently destroy your watch is by getting them cleaned regularly. A good quality cleaning may turn out to be pretty expensive and it will take a few days too. Please ensure that you do turn your watch over to an experienced watch maker who knows his job.
The watchmaker you choose has to be experienced enough to pull your watch to bits and then be able to put it back again. Each piece has to be handled with care and gloves. The individual pieces are rinsed with benzene and petrol and then allowed to soak in the mix.
All accumulated dirt and girt wash away in the solvent action of the cleansers. A high quality watch brush is then used to wipe away all of the grit. Each individual piece is examined minutely for defects and defective or worn pieces are replaced. Make sure that you have individual serial numbers noted for your heirloom pieces for later purchases of spare parts. Antique and heirloom pieces require talented and knowledgeable watchmakers who know what they are doing.
