Watches get dinged and dented as a part of everyday use, its normal. But if you want quality watches like Rolexes to last for a long time then you better take care!
Watches are something we wear every day and as a result no matter how much you love your expensive Rolex, it is going to get dented. No question about it at all! Hairline scratches, dents and dings in the casing, clasp scratches are all part and parcel of everyday wear. Most users just let the dings and dents accumulate and then get them rubbed out on normal servicing visits. But that’s not what you should do with high-quality precision watches like a Rolex. A few steps you should take immediately to nullify any scratches and dirt on your watch is to wipe it down immediately after use with polishing cloths. Superficial dirt and crud comes right off with a few tweaks of this cloth.
Then try removing the bracelets for a light cleaning and refinishing at least once a year. You can use a Bergeon springbar tool, measuring calipers, measuring tape and case pads
to carry out the task better. The Bergeon springbar tool is the best for sliding the release of the case. Do not try this with cheap and inexpensive springbar tools, as they tend to snap off in the case release and this will block the release permanently. Use a small and sharp tool to do the job. Clean out the strap and then reattach the bracelet to the case back carefully. Make sure you use slight downward pressure with a see-saw motion to prevent the pressure on the
spring bar from sliding back out. Try giving your watch straps a little of a rubbing under a running tap too. A good scrubbing with soap and water really works wonders with a good watch so long as the water seal is intact on the case back and you dry out the straps thoroughly before reattachment.
