Silicone is one of the best known artificial ingredients used to lubricate equipment. Watchmakers have long recognized that the grease is best for watches to ensure optimum working conditions for a long long time.

We all use watches at one time or other in lives. If you work, you will be hard pressed to keep appointments if you don’t have a wrist watch to refer to. And one of the main ingredients used to ensure that watches work on time is silicone grease. Almost every watchmaker knows that friction is the main enemy of good timepieces. The constant ticking and running of time pieces 24-7 ensures that a healthy amount of wear and tear happens on the interior tiny workings. The intricate gears and levers do wear down by constant grinding and ultimately one day or the, other your watch will stop working.
Silicone grease is just one step in the watchmaker’s arsenal to prevent the friction from destroying a watch. Silicone grease is stable and does not swell up in the presence of water. In fact, it’s one of the best lubricants in the market at present and is used for a variety of purposes. It has high thermal stability and is preferred for use in confined areas like the interiors of watch cases. Watchmakers use the silicone grease commonly to seal off gaskets and slightly leaky areas. As the grease is stable in high temperatures, it can be bought in small or large quantities at any general or auto parts stores. The larger grease packets are used in the automotive industry to smoothen the interior workings of cars. Several manufacturers now use the silicon grease to seal gaskets in high quality gold or dual toned watches. The grease acts as a preservative on the gasket and ensures that it’s not damaged when watchmakers remove the back cover for repair. Silicone and ceramic ball bearings combined with silicone grease is now being used by Jaeger-LeCoultre in watches since 2002 to ensure better and much smoother working.
