Each watch has three hands in the dial at a minimum. Some have more used for various reasons. But if you want to remove these delicate hands you have to have special appliances that do the needful.
Every watch has hands which show the time. A few watches have more than two hands with separate dials inside the main dial to show days and months and even stop watches.
But several times due to accidents like dropping the watch, the watch hands can come off. When they come off or are partially broken in place, they become really hard to repair and replace. That’s the reason why watchmakers have specially tools to do the job of removing watch hands. The repair of the hands of a watch is really difficult too as watch makers worry about instruments hitting the dial and getting damaged with the action of the instruments. One slip can mean permanent nick and dents on the watch face which have to be replaced by the watch maker himself. With ordinary watches, it’s not a big problem, but with expensive watches like a Rolex, a single nick can mean a huge loss.
Use hand pushers and removers to protect yourself from such costly errors. These are simple levers which work very well. Just place the lever under the hands at the central axis and lever upward to pry both the hands off in one push. It works really great and you don’t have to go anywhere near the dial at all! Cover the dial with a thin sheet of paper and that gets you additional protection. Bergeon hand levers work excellently for just that action and they are easily available too. You can also get a better set with angled heads which reduces the force you apply on the central axis. There are several companies which also make hand removers but personally I would recommend that you use the Bergeon ones as they are cheap and they work just as well as any other.
