Blowers: How Are They Used?

March 23rd, 2009 · No Comments

Blowers are used to clear dirt from the interior workings of almost all watches. They are easy to use and can be easily sourced.
It might seem very silly to have a blower just to blow air on a watch. But this piece of equipment is really important. Each watch gets dirt and grit stuck in it over the years; it’s just a part of normal life. But this grit has to be cleared out for the watch to work properly so the constant wear and tear can be reduced. Each watch has to be serviced by a watchmaker who will open the back casing and clean out the interior with specialized materials like brushes, blowers, and cleaning tools. Just blowing into the center of the watch to remove grit will not do at all. Most blowers are manufactured to specific designs and they are easily available.

One of the best designs are from the Bergeon company like the Bergeon 4657 Rubber Bellows The bellows is easy to use and fits directly into the palm of your hand. The rubber bulb is easily usable and reusable. The bellows can be made available in round bottom and flat bottomed bulbs to prevent then from rolling off surfaces. If the rubber bulb gets destroyed you can use replacement parts from the company to reuse.

Watchmakers do not blow into the watches as the blowing may get drops of moisture into the watch casing. Removing the spit and water from the inner workings will require you Bergeon 4657 Rubber Bellowsto dismantle the entire watch. That is a huge time waste when all you have to do was use a blower.  They are great for drying off the watch and for drying watch parts which are removed from cleaning solutions. Watch makers combine the use of blowers with brushes, scratch brush pens, Selvyt cloths, antistatic brushes to remove the grit.
